ART lovers can catch a rare glimpse of artists from Wyndham and across the west at work as they throw open the doors to their private studios and galleries this weekend.
From painters and sculptors, to ceramic artists and photographers, they will showcase their talents as part of this year's Open Studios program on Saturday and Sunday.
Established in 2005, it has provided the community with a unique opportunity to see works by local, emerging and established artists in their own creative environment.
One of the artists in this year's line-up is Rosemarie Reber, who combines life drawings and sculpture at her Hoppers Crossing studio with teaching at Westbourne
Grammar.
"Art is something which just came naturally to me," she said. "Most of my work is decorative and generally themed around my own life experiences, while my sculptures are more humorous.
"Just a few weeks ago I came back from Europe, so a lot of my current pieces are based around cafe scenes."
Wyndham mayor Heather Marcus said the program allowed artists to show off their skills and residents a chance to learn the different creative methods employed in their work. "It's a fun and mostly free weekend for art lovers to learn, peruse and purchase art at local studios." Budding artists can also share and exchange ideas.
Ms Reber will lead a drawing workshop exploring 'imaginative abstraction', using pencil, pen, charcoal and pastel at her studio, Factory 3/57 Industrial Avenue, Hoppers Crossing at 1pm on both days. Other Wyndham-based artists in the program include Ian Bunn, Janet Knight, the M.A.D family and Westside Crafts and eggshell artists. The full program, including an interactive map of open studios is available online at www.openstudiosinthewest.net.au or from the civic centre, 45 Princes Highway, Werribee.
