Arts programs get an airing

08 Sep, 2010 01:00 AM
Arty types of Wyndham listen up - local radio station WYN-FM is tuning in to your world. Denise Hughes (pictured, left) wants to put the spotlight on the city's artists, writers, musicians, dancers and actors with a regular spot on her weekly program Creative Corner.

She will add a local flavour to her show by inviting members from the Wyndham Community Arts Alliance into the studio.

"The program has mostly focused on artists coming through Wyndham, like directors of plays showing at the cultural centre. But I was having trouble finding local artists to profile, so I approached the alliance, hoping their input might help inform myself and listeners about the arts community here."

Alliance president Wolf Heidecker (pictured with members Margaret Campbell and Tess Leckie) said he was looking forward to contributing to the show. "The more we get out there, the more new members we are likely to attract, especially newcomers to the area, who might not know what sort of tuition and arts programs exist in Wyndham." He said the next major arts event on the local agenda was next month's Western Union Writers Festival.
