Friends and colleagues grant mum's dying wish

08 Sep, 2010 01:00 AM
A MOTHER'S dying wish has been granted thanks to the support of friends and former work colleagues.

On February 14, Silvana Debrincat lost her battle with breast cancer. She was just 29.

The night before her death she told Oriano Salvaggio, her colleague at Werribee's CS Accounting and Taxation, she wanted her 18-month-old daughter to have a good education.

Last Friday, 68 players teed off to support her little Gizelle and father George, during the firm's fifth annual golf classic at Sanctuary Lakes.

Mrs Debrincat was with the company for 10 years.

Organiser and former work colleague Shelley Ryan said the event raised more than $7500, which will be put into a trust fund for Gizelle.

"It was really overwhelming. We have 28 employees and we're like one big family – we're very close-knit. We all support each other, so when we lost Silvana it touched everyone – it was a real shock." Mr Debrincat and members of his late wife's family were also in attendance.

"George is a really strong person. He played golf for the first time last week," Ms Ryan said.

Dear editor my name is BDR Kelvin Groves and I am currently serving in MT-C TEAM1 in the Aust army in Afghanistan since Jan 19 this year. I was raised in Hoppers Crossing and some of my family still live there. I read your articles whenever I get the chance while I'm over here and it is good to see that there are still good people living in my local area that I still call my home town even though I have not lived there in nine years due to being in the army. I commend you and wish to see more heartfelt stories not the crime stories I am becoming used to in the area. When I moved to Hoppers I lived in 1 of 5 houses on Derrimut Road, now the city is not how I remember it. keep up the good work, Kelvin Groves.
