A HARVARD University study tour by Mambourin chief executive Rohan Braddy has inspired him in his quest to provide better respite services for Wyndham.
Mr Braddy was awarded a fellowship by the Harvard Club of Victoria, allowing him to take part in an extensive education program and study tour across the US with a focus on not-for-profit management.
The result was an overwhelming experience for Mr Braddy, who has returned home eager to translate the wealth of knowledge to the disability service provider's most-pressing issues.
"It was very daunting to be speaking in such an auspicious place as Harvard," he said.
"But it was great to have the opportunity to educate the audience about the challenges people with disabilities and their families face and how Mambourin works to empower them, which made it a very worthwhile experience."
Mr Braddy said the experience gave him a renewed focus on the possibilities of collaboration in getting a much-needed respite centre up and running in Wyndham.
"The potential for collaboration is really limitless," he said.
"I think we have done it in the past, but the study tour probably gave me the confidence to put collaboration front and centre."
The new mindset led Mr Braddy to immediately seek partnership possibilities with specialists in providing respite facilities.
"We were originally going to go it alone, and we would have tried to reinvent the wheel in terms of providing respite care, but why not seek the assistance of experts?"
