WERRIBEE Tigers have made the stunning acquisition of 2007 AFL premiership player Nathan Ablett.
It's part of a triple swoop for the Tigers who during the holidays agreed to terms with former AFL-listed players Ben Ross and Tim Ruffles.
The biggest coup was undoubtedly the signing of Ablett.
The 26-year-old was a dominant force in the big league for a short time before retiring prematurely.
He returned to the AFL to play for expansion club Gold Coast Suns in their inaugural year last year, but managed just two games.
Ablett is eager to reignite his football career and will become one of the most feared forwards in the Victorian Football League if he arrives at the cage switched on.
It wasn't simply a signing of a big name for the Tigers, either. They had to find a key forward after swingman Brad Mangan was taken in the AFL rookie draft by North Melbourne.
New Tigers coach Scott West said Ablett
"is the key position player we were looking for and he will fit into our club very well. "We are very pleased he is on board."
Ablett, who is back in Geelong, said: "I am still keen to play and I want to do well with Werribee."
