WERRIBEE City unveiled former Socceroo Danny Tiatto on a guest stint for the remainder of the Football Federation Victoria men's state league 2 north-west season.
Tiatto slotted into the familiar central midfield role that had made him a star on the international and club football scene.
The 37-year-old fitted in seamlessly to a midfield line of Milan Savic, Bobby Bubulj and Gianfranco Barbieri.
But despite their midfield dominance, the Bees could only muster a share of the points in a nil-all draw with second-placed Whittlesea Ranges in terrible conditions at Galvin Park on Saturday.
Bees coach Danny Gnjidic was left to rue a missed opportunity.
"We were probably a bit stiff not to win it," he said.
"We had the better chances.
"As has been the case a number of times this year, we played the better football and just couldn't convert."
All eyes were fixed on Tiatto.
The playmaker endured a tough time of it in conditions not conducive to beautiful football.
The former Manchester City and Leicester City player worked hard to ensure the Bees edged it in terms of possession.
"We tried to get him into the game but the conditions didn't allow for the game to be of the highest quality," Gnjidic said.
"Most of the ground was under water and we had some ducks swimming behind the goals there at one stage.
"That didn't allow for the game to play at its best."
Tiatto had to overcome a hamstring injury sustained in the Victorian Premier League with the Melbourne Knights to be ruled fit to play.
He trained all week and gave the green light on Thursday night.
The news of Joe Spiteri's return from an arm injury meant the Bees were fielding their strongest team in months, led by two former Australian internationals.
"He is a humble and down-to-earth character and the players took to him straight away," Gnjidic said of Tiatto.
"They realise the significance of someone like him coming back to the club of his own accord.
"He made the call and contacted the club at the start of the year that he wanted to finish the season with us.
"I think the players appreciated that."
Tiatto is a likely starter in the Bees' last game of the season away to Williamstown on Saturday.
The club will have a chat with the former English Premier League star in the coming months about a potential return in 2011.
