WERRIBEE RSL is the real deal in the Bowls Victoria premier division.
After five consecutive wins, the Bees are "on a roll" in the words of player-coach Brett Dodd.
They produced a massive 69-65 upset over title fancy Melbourne at Chirnside Park on Saturday to solidify their place among the top four.
The victory was all the more impressive considering two of the Bees regulars, Snowy Barker and Darren Christie, were out of town.
The Bees have turned from survival mode to aiming for a top-two finish.
"I'm pinching myself," Dodd said. "We're finding ways to win the close games.
"The confidence is right up and I can't believe I am saying it but we have set ourselves for a top-two finish.
"We know other teams will lift now and I hope our curve goes up from here as far as training and performance goes."
The Bees four-shot win was achieved despite a split of the rinks.
The key rink was that of recently acquired David Zitter.
Zitter powered to a 24-9 win over Scott Mortimer.
"He was on fire all day," Dodd said.
The other skip to salute for the Bees was Mick O'Neil.
O'Neil was a replacement for the absent Barker and edged out Dylan Fisher for a 17-14 win.
Dodd says the Bees are in a privileged position to have a player of the quality of O'Neil to step up to the skipper's role.
"Before my time at the club he regularly skipped," he said. "He puts in as much as anyone down at the club so he reaped the rewards of that." Dodd (15-21) and youngster Dane McKinnon (13-21) were both on the wrong end of the scoreline.
McKinnon, however, wrestled a huge 15-point deficit back to eight and that was enough for the Bees to keep their winning run alive.
"He won five of the last six ends. He was the one that got the whole rink going," Dodd said.
The Bees hit the road for another stern test against Essendon at Windy Hill on Saturday.
